My experience with childbirth in Canada was so so. I hired a doula for my first birth but couldn't afford one for my second but my sister stepped in and despite no experience with childbirth whatsoever she was awesome. I felt I received awesome nursing care. the doctor came in and literally caught the baby. Where I feel the system fails to complete the package was with after care. There was very little assistance with the child that need I remind you does not come with an owner's manual. Assistance in everything from diapering, bathing to breastfeeding. When I gave birth to my second child I told the doctor and the nurses that I did not feel comfortable going home and would like to stay another day, I felt something was wrong. The nurses did what they could to keep me around a bit longer but then the doctor came and said that I had to go that there was nothing wrong and I was just nervous. My daughter developed pneumonia within days and landed in the hospital for 8 days. I delivered her at 33 weeks, but they figured because she had good weight she was good to go. I have heard that things have changed in the past 10 years. Thanks for the links to get caught up on those changes.
